Oorah: Download the Songs Here.

This is the third year in a row that Oorah the “Kiruv” organization has released a free music CD to go along with their Chinese auction. I don’t personally think this is a proper way of using their Tzedakah money, but that’s what this post is about. For more on that topic click here.

In concept, it’s not a bad idea, but sadly the songs are usually off. They are just not done well. The songs sound like throwaways, the singers don’t sound like they are giving it their all. Last years Fried song “Galay” was a train wreck. It’s true what they say, “you get what you pay for.”

Here are this years entries, really nothing here at all. Maybe because they are using Tzedakah money they are skimping on production value. I couldn’t tell you, but my advice would be, cut down on the songs. Instead maybe produce one or two very good, instead of 6 or 7 so so’s.

Mordechai Ben David (MBD) | Avraham Fried | Yossef Chaim Bloch
Shloime Dachs | Shloime Daskal |Audition Winner: Sruli Werdyger

I also have one comment on the audition winner. Originally I thought it would be cool, and I still think it was a good idea. But the winner is the son of Mendy Werdyger of Aderet/Mostly Music. He’s the Newphew of MBD and that just comes off as very tacky and very staged. It was being advertised as a way to get “discovered“, which is something that clearly did not happen here.
