5 Chareidi Bochurim Beat Up Woman and Israel Soldier for Not Moving to the Back of the Bus.

This is a tragedy of epic proportions.

A haredi woman was attacked on a Beit Shemesh bus by five haredi youths Sunday for refusing to move to the back of the bus, police said. The woman, who was seated at the front, asked an IAF soldier to sit next to her for protection. The attackers then turned on the soldier. “They started beating me murderously,” the soldier said in an interview.

The midday attack on the Egged 497 bus culminated in a clash between several dozen haredi men and police. During the melee, the suspects fled and the rioters were dispersed by police. There were no injuries reported in the incident, but the tires of a police vehicle were punctured.

In the haredi community, men and women traditionally sit separately on buses. Some bus lines that serve the haredi public exclusively are segregated by sex, with the women sitting at the back. Last year, a 50-year-old American-Israeli woman making her way to the Western Wall was beaten on a Jerusalem bus for refusing to move to the rear of the bus. The woman, Miriam Shear, was slapped, kicked, punched and pushed by a group of men who demanded that she sit with the other women in the back of the city bus, which was not one of the segregated lines.

Whatever happened to Derech Eretz Kodmah L’Torah? What happen to Shomer Negiah? You can’t sit next to them but you can beat them senseless? Where are the Gedolim?? Where are all the people who ban Jewish Music concerts and make sure we aren’t eating strawberries with bugs in them? Where are the countless articles from these same Torah leaders condemning these attacks? Where is the outrage in our community? Where is the shame?

Why are more people not talking about this? What kind of disgusting monsters do this? Where have we gone wrong? On one side we have kids frying out and not keeping Shabbos or Kosher and doing drugs. The other side we have over the edge religious fanatics who beat a woman and an Israeli Soldier?? Where are the cries from the Chareidi world??

Can you actually believe that there are commenter’s on Yeshiva World claiming the story isn’t true. There is actually someone saying that we should be angry at the woman because she should have moved!!

Why is the woman “FRUM” and the youth “CHAREIDI”?

Why is her refusal to move any less of a chilul HaShem than their reaction?

A male sitting between two women or a woman between two men IS NOT a chumra. It is an open Gemorah and brought as halachah in the Kitzur Shulchan Aruch.

I could vomit from reading that. I don’t care what anyone says and I don’t care who wants to make this look good. No one is making up this story. Why don’t they ask them woman and soldier if they made up their injuries!

Did these people learn any basic Tanach?? Even if you only raise your hand to hit someone you are considered a Rasha. Where is the respect for women? The only reason we were zoche to be brought out of Eretz Mitzrayim was because of the women. A woman is the most important figure in the Jewish home and the building block of our family. I have no respect for anyone who claims their religious views encourage them to beat a woman because she is not moving away from where you sit.

Thank g-d most of the commenter’s on Jpost and YW are upset, but where are the public statements by our Chareidi Torah leaders in Eretz Yisroel publicly decrying these actions and making sure people never lay a hand on anyone? I hate to think of the answer. I’m sickened! I read this story and I’m embarrassed for Klal Yisroel. I’m embarrassed for the Chillul Hashem this causes and for the damage it does to all of us.
