Lately there seems to be a pickup in Jewish internet radio activity. The ShmaisRadio stream got much better the last few weeks. Yesterday they had over an hour of classic English songs (the good ones, not like “Stop!”) they have good theme hours and take requests right away. Good stuff.
Then today I found out that YosefDov from the sadly defunct FiveTownsRadio has started a new station called Olam Radio. So far I’d say the site looks great and the audio quality is very good. The playlist is a bit shvach though. I don’t want to see another random playlist site. It’s already a shame that both Nachum Segal and MostlyMusic’s streams all seem random and uninspired. (Plus major points off to MostlyMusic for requiring you to sign in to listen.)
I want to hear DJ’s, shows, contests, interviews etc etc. Like the old FiveTowns but better, because frankly, their old station was very unreliable. One month they were very involved and cranking out interviews and shows and the next month it was a ghost town.
Speaking of FiveTownsRadio, may I suggest that they take down that site if it’s never coming back? They have had the “coming back in a few days” thing up for well over a year.
Right now I’m gonna try OlamRadio from time to time to check it out and see how they develop. I would suggest you check it out too. But in general I’m sticking to ShmaisRadio as my default background station.
